5 Browns players made team captains for the NFL season

According to head coach Kevin Stefanski, the Cleveland Browns will have five captains for the 2022 season. The captain logo will be worn by Nick Chubb, Myles Garrett, Joel Bitonio, Anthony Walker, and Charley Hughlett.

Bitonio has been with the Browns the longest, while Hughlett, the long snapper, has been here the second longest.

The squad voted to choose who would receive the season-long awards, according to head coach Kevin Stefanski. “I believe it speaks a lot when your colleagues support you in a vote,” Stefanski said.

He also added that each of those men is a wonderful leader in his or her own particular way, and they will all be excellent leaders for this squad.

Even though the squad will have season captains, Stefanski added that each week, game captains would be chosen who will accurately represent the current match-up.

However, I do believe it speaks volumes about the gamers who will reflect us prior to the game and when you’re out there, it reveals a great deal about who you are, said Stefanski. “You just don’t need a “C” on your breast to be a captain, I think leadership comes from the different places on your football team,” he said.

The Brown’s five captains this season include:

Offense:

  • OL Joel Bitonio
  • RB Nick Chubb

Defense:

  • DE Myles Garrett
  • LB Anthony Walker Jr.

Special Teams:

  • LS Charley Hughlett

What is the C Patch?

The “C” patch is a badge worn by players who have been voted as team captains. All teams taking part in the captaincy program adhere to the same design. The patches, which come in team colors, can be worn on either the left or right breast of the front. Moreover, based on other patches and other accessories worn by the particular squad.

The quantity of gold stars on the patch denotes the duration of the player’s team’s captaincy. The “C” on the patch is gold if the voted captain has held the position for more than five years.

In around 2019, the NFL altered the patches slightly, removing the white outline at the patch’s edge. Consequently, instead of stars fill with gold color to indicate years as a captain. For instance, an athlete who was in his third year as a captain would have 2 gold stars.

While NFL rules state that teams may name up to six captains, this rule is not strictly enforced.

The Browns team history

The Cleveland Browns team was founded in 1944 after Cleveland industrialist Arthur B. McBride purchased a club in the newly formed All-America Football Conference, which began play in 1946. McBride’s first move upon purchasing the squad was to appoint Paul Brown as a coach and general manager, a highly successful high school, college, and service coach.

However, in the first 10 years of professional football after World War II, the Cleveland Browns emerged to be the finest club in either league. In general, the AAFC and NFL had teams of roughly equivalent caliber.

Many claimed the Browns’ dominance, which wiped out any serious opposition, was a major factor in the AAFC’s demise following the 1949 season.

The Browns, San Francisco 49ers, and Baltimore Colts were required to join the NFL under the terms of the AAFC-NFL settlement. Many ardent fans of the NFL, who were still dubious about the Browns’ sincerity, anticipated a disastrous performance from Cleveland when they faced off against the league’s top teams.

The 1950 season began with a surprising 35-10 victory over the reigning NFL champion Philadelphia Eagles, but the Browns rapidly showed their dominance was no accident. From 1950 to 1955, Cleveland won the NFL titles in 1950, 1954, and 1955, as well as six consecutive seasons of the NFL Eastern Conference championship.

1957–1999

In 1957, the year when legendary Syracuse running back Jim Brown joined the Browns, they secured another divisional championship. Jim Brown set a record for the most rushing yards ever in his nine-season career (12,312), which held for more than 20 years.

After the 1962 season, Blanton Collier, an earlier assistant, took over as coach, ending the Paul Brown tenure. Moreover, in 1964, when the Cleveland Browns defeated the Baltimore Colts 27-0, Collier helped them win their final NFL championship.

In their first 40 seasons in the NFL, the Browns advanced to the postseason playoffs 22 times. They managed to win 11 NFL American/Eastern Conference championships, and multiple NFL Century Division championships. Moreover, the AFC Central Division championships and the four NFL championships ended up being won between 1950 and 1964.

Browns supporters and Cleveland municipal officials coordinated an unparalleled grass-roots campaign to thwart the transfer because they were determined to keep the team in Cleveland. The NFL reacted fast and, in collaboration with local officials, came up with a novel solution that not only allowed for the construction of a brand-new cutting-edge stadium but also ensured the return of professional football to Cleveland by no later than 1999.
